Chris Parkes, Horn 2003 -
|
Chris Parkes was born in Doncaster in 1981 and studied cornet briefly before moving onto the tenor horn at the age of seven. At fifteen, realising that his solo tenor horn career was not blossoming as it should, Chris turned his attention to the French Horn. In 1997 he began his studies at Chetham's School of Music and during his two years there, he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Chris was the UK winner of the 1998 Paxman International Horn Competition and reached the brass final of the televised BBC Young Musician's 2000 Competition. In 1999 Chris went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where his teachers included Hugh Seenan, Jeffrey Bryant and Richard Bissill. In March 2004, Chris was invited to join the horn section of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2007 he left the LPO to Join the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Horn and in September 2010 he left the RPO to take up the position of Principal horn with the Swedish National Radio Orchestra.
