Katy Pryce is the new Fine Arts Brass Trombonist.
The BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra's loss is certainly our gain. We're delighted to announce that Katy Pryce will be occupying the trombone chair from here on in. You can read more about Katy here but suffice to say, it's a pleasure having her on board.
Auriga: The Five Stars is Premiered by FAB
On July 13th 2004 we gave the world premiere of Auriga: The Five Stars by Eddie McGuire; performed as part of our recital in the Carlisle Summer Festival. The critics seemed pleased with the new work and a few members of the audience have written to our talk page to say how much they enjoyed the concert. Eddie has certainly written us a very attractive piece; superbly depicting his interest and love of astrology. His programme note can be read here. We are very grateful to the Scottish Arts Council for their help in funding this project. This work will be performed in the majority of our next season of concerts receiving it's Scottish premiere in October 2004 in the Queens's Hall, Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Contemporary Arts Trust (ECAT). It will then feature in some of our concerts during our Scottish Tour in March 2005.
John McLeod to write for our Scottish Tour in March 2005
Plans to commission the eminent Scottish composer John McLeod to write a new piece for us are progressing well. We are hoping to premiere this new piece during our planned Scottish Tour in March 2005. John McLeod joins a long line of Scottish composers FAB have commissioned over the years - all of which can be read about at our premieres page. We are very happy that the name of McLeod will join McGuire, Boyle & McPherson in writing specifically for our group. We are hoping to include these pieces on a new Scottish contemporary brass quintet CD in the next year. Watch this space for more details.

Educational Work
We are pleased to announce a series of new educational packages for schools and colleges this year. For over 20 years the group has given schools concerts alongside our recitals around the world. This has been biased in the past towards the more elite areas of brass playing such as students at Conservatoires. Recently however, we have started to direct our work to more specific areas of the UK national curriculum. We will continue to ‘coach’ the next generation of degree level brass players, but we are now able to tailor our work towards the requirements of A Level, GCSE and keystages 1 & 2. This has enabled us to offer a package for all, whether it be infant schools or workshops like The Royal College of Music. Have a look at our Out and About page to see the variety and diversity of some of our more recent educational work. More details can be obtained by contacting us directly to discuss any individual requirements.
