FAB's return RWCMD
After a gap of some seven years, we were delighted to return to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in February as guests of new HOB, Kevin Price. Kevin originates from New Zealand so it seemed perfectly fitting to start our concert with Philip Wilby's wonderful 'Haka' (Igniting Breath) and thanks to Kevin's 'background knowledge' it received a proper introduction for once! Our concert also gave us a great opportunity to perform a few other great FAB commissions such as Philip Flood's 'Movement and Repose' and Tim Souster's 'La Marche'. We also gave our latest commission from John McCabe 'Hawk in Winter Light' another airing and it's Welsh Premiere to boot. We followed our recital with an afternoon master-class with three quintets from the RWCMD and it was agreed by all that we shouldn't leave it seven years before our next visit!

Updates with new sound files!
We've been busy of late updating the website with some new soundfiles. If you visit our premieres page you'll be able to hear some new files for some of our commissions, and if you pass by the records page you'll see we've added some new recordings. There's the recent release of Nick Sackman's music for Metier Records where we perform his brass quintet, 'Timepiece' and where ex-FAB trombonist, Simon Hogg, performs his Trombone Sonata. There are also two volumes of recordings FAB made recently with The BBC Radio 4 Daily Service Singers called 'The Nation's Favourite Hymns'.

FAB Commissions shortlisted
Music by McLeod & Boyle
The two premieres given during our Scottish tour in March 2005 - John McLeod's Chinese Whispers and Rory Boyle's Elegy for the Black Bitch - were both shortlisted in the brass & wind category for a British Academy of Composers and Songwriters prize in December '05. Sadly, neither was picked as the eventual winner, but it great to see their work recognised by a respected organisation. We think they're both winners anyway!

We're off to tour the DM (again) in November
It's with great sadness (tee hee) that we announce our impending trip to the shores of the Dominican Republic! From November 3rd until November 11th we'll have to battle with sand, cold beer and sunshine instead of rain, Horlicks and er, more rain. We're so sorry we're going, honest we are.....

Our final world premiere of 2005
It been a hectic year for world premieres in 2005. You can read more about the five we've given so far by clicking here. Our sixth and final world premiere of 2005 is a collaborative work with The Waynflete Singers, percussion and organ at Winchester Cathedral on December 10th 2005. The climax of the first half will be the premiere of 'Jesu Redemptor Omnium', an exciting new work by the Paris based composer/organist, Naji Hakim.
