Simon Lenton, Trumpet 1995 -
|
Simon won a scholarship to study trumpet at Trinity College of Music in 1988 with Iaan Wilson and Philip Jones.
Since graduating in 1991 he has freelanced across the spectrum of professional music making in the UK and abroad as a performer/soloist, conductor, arranger, composer and adjudicator. As a trumpeter he is known for his capacity to play in all musical formats whether it be 'period' Baroque orchestras, symphony orchestras, opera orchestras, pop bands, jazz bands or playing lead trumpet in a variety of UK tours, West End and touring theatre productions. As an arranger Simon has worked for BBC TV & Radio, Englebert Humperdinck, Lesley Garrett, NDR Radio Symphony (Germany), Fron Male Voice Choir. He has written educational material for Warwick Music and acted as adviser to the Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall. His first solo CD, 'Music for A Perfect Day', with organist Kevin Bowyer was hailed by the BBC Music Magazine as "stunning virtuosity". Simon currently plays 1st Trumpet for Tim Minchin's award winning musical 'Matilda' in London's West End.
The music critic of the Kentucky Herald USA said of him: "I wanted to put his performance in a gold memory box." This was bettered only by the Nigerian Guardian who described him as "short and cleanshaven".
Like Angela, Simon plays Smith-Watkins trumpets exclusively.
